Utilities contribute to N.C. lawmakers who support ‘fracking’

Duke Energy Corp., Progress Energy Inc. and Piedmont Natural Gas Co. Inc. are among the corporations that donated money last year to N.C. lawmakers who voted to allow “fracking” to extract natural gas in North Carolina, according to a group that tracks spending in state political campaigns.

Companies in the energy sector donated more than $500,000 to pro-fracking legislators’ campaigns, the Triangle Business Journal reports, citing a report by North Carolina Voters for Clean Elections.
